Hummingbird Heaven

Despite the cool rainy weather summer flowers seem to be in full bloom. Our Wisterias are lush this year and the hummingbirds seem to love to hang out on the branches when they take a brief break from feeding. We are going through about 20 pounds (or about 9+ kilos) of sugar a week now with 5 feeders out. The little guys really give us a lot of pleasure watching them. I can't think of any creature that has more tenacity - in such a compact little body too. Amazing creatures!

I did finally get around to starting my piece for Michelle Ward's monthly Crusade (aka monthly art project challenge) # 20 - making a paper cast. I never did things like this in school at any age and I was determined to give it a try - what fun ! I really like how my pieces came out but I still have to paint them - will post the result soon. I'll probably be done with Crusade #21 which was just posted soon too. I am determined to not fall so far behind on things again ! Of course I am also still determined to finish my Quilt For An Hour Project too ! I did not actually biy fabric for nothing ! Back to my real world job today - thinking of all the fun things I could be doing right now !!

Some years we have oodles of hummingbirds but so far this year we only have a few. The honeysuckle is in bloom now so that may account for their absence!

Your pics are WONDERFUL! Hummingbirds are great, I agree. We had a nest last year with two babies and it was fun to watch them grow! You inspire me to put out feeders...maybe they'll come back this year too!

Do you need air traffic control to coordinate the feedings? I also know now why I have hummers only when they are migrating! They know the bounty that awaits them at your house! Have a fantastic week! Cheers.

I love hummers! Those are some great pictures.
I am hopping to get some buddleia planted to provide permanent source of interest for them at my house. :)

Your hummingbirds are nicer than mine! They only come to the feeder one at a time in Dallas--they dive bomb each other chase each other away. Such amazing creatures they are...
Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Getting caught up... yeah...

Love the hummers. We used to have three feeders and buy 5 pounds of sugar a week, but then we got Hollie-three-bell-huntress, and had to give up feeding birds. I miss 'em.

On another subject, I just tagged you to do a meme... I see you did one recently (and understand if you're too busy), but I want to know you better, so tagged you anyway. You can see it on my blog.

I'm amazed by all the hummers at your feeders...we just have one out and although we sometimes have 3 or 4 trying to visit at the same time, they always seem to be fighting and running each other off...how come your hummers share?

Ooh, I love all your little hummers. I live in Nevada and we get black chin ones. But I seldom get more than one bird on a feeder at a time. They fight a lot.
