Unearthed Treasure

I unearthed some of these applique blocks today when I was sorting through a previously hard to get to pile. I love doing hand applique. I have taken only one applique class in my life - and that was from the inimitable Nancy Lee Chong. That one class helped me see the "applique light" - and I have been in love with it ever since. I found too many blocks for one post - so I'll continue in this vein until I have some Fair photos and stories to post early this week ! I think I was working from the "Little Brown Bird" patterns by Margaret Docherty when I was doing these. I simply love her work ! She is amazing talent !

These two blocks were done in reverse applique with the addition of a variety of embroidery threads for embellishment - as well as some inking and a fair amount of French Knots ! I am hoping that one day i will be able to embrace machine applique - but I just have not found a technique that I like yet. Besides I find hand applique very relaxing and rather meditative !

I agree!!! Hand applique is very meditative. (Except points...ugh) Sort of how I approach knitting....any repetitive motion in a project is quieting as well as creative. Gail

Wonderful piece! And I agree too, and I like stiching, this is also very meditative for me.
