I had decided that I wanted to make a shawl- an odd compulsion for me.
I had some requirements though.
The shawl had to be:
Simple (because I had never made one before)
Warm
Made from what I had on hand (since I did not want to spend money for yarn and then not like the result).
I wanted something that would wrap me in my favorite colors on a cool evening. Something that would be like a favored sweater.
This is about the simplest pattern I could find. A Prairie Shawl from "Folk Shawls" by Cheryl Oberle. There is very little that I could mess up on this pattern - and the only 'decorative' element is the bit of yarn over along all of the edges. I was pleased that I did not drop any stitches and ended up with the number I was supposed to have when I reached the end. I LOVE this shawl. The colors are all of my favorites & I used one of my favorites yarns as well - Kureyon by Noro Yarns (all from my yarn stash). It washed and blocked perfectly. Thankfully we have still been enjoying cool evenings - so I have been able to enjoy actually using it!
I am feeling really adventurous now and just ordered some beautiful Koigu KPPM hand dyed yarn for my next shawl project - a Koigu pattern called "Charlotte's Web". It will be my first lacy knitted project and my first attempt at reading a charted pattern. Wish me luck !
PS: The shawl is really a triangle of course - the photo , when uploaded , took the corners off ...but I am sure you get the idea !
