Home Again Home Again Jiggety Jog

Kathy Z. & I at a beautiful fountain in Houston

Back home from Houston. Exhausted but happy. It was a long week, but it was a short week. It was the best of times - filled with friendship and beauty. I am exhausted & hardly know where to begin. So I thought that I would back the truck up a bit & begin with the "before". My journal quilt that I called "Inflamed" and worked on during the terrible fire seasons. Before the journal quilt though I want to share a photo of my dear cyber friend Kathy & I. We finally got to meet face-to-face this week after nearly two years of on-line friendship. I owe her thanks & I owe her apologies. Thanks for being tour guide for Sarah & I & apologies for not spending more time with her. I kept forgetting my phone at the hotel and, honestly, I was often too exhausted & buggy eyed to have been able to hold a conversation. Exhaustion is a problem for me & I hate it and resent it. Kathy and I could have one heck of a time together if we were closer. She is, just as I had thought, a beautiful, funny, intelligent, crazy gal!

On to to "Inflamed". I thought I loaded these photos in order but what I have gotten is dis-order - so please bear with me! I loved making this piece. Last January in a class we were asked what our goals were. One of my stated goals was to have a wool quilt accepted into a show. Little did I know at that time that the goal would be fulfilled with the small piece that I began working on during the fire season in California & Washington. I wanted to explore a visual representation of the power & fierceness of fire - and of my fear of it - and I wanted to use wool. After making the felt I quilted it - and then added fire color beading. At the show the piece was rather far away and high up - at least for me as vertically challenged as I am! I could not read my statement either, even though I had used a larger font than had been called for. There is so much more to tell you about the show. It was such a blessing to be able to visit with my buddy Sarah. I still wish she lived closer again - but her move East was the best thing she could have done for herself! I am so proud of her!

Ah! At least - What should have been at the top! The piece as a whole.

Welcome back - lovely to see the detail on your JQ (it was one of the few featured on the Houston website in case you didn't know so I'd seen the whole before). Your work on wool gets better and btter - this is wonderful!

Inflamed is breath-taking, Marie! I'm so glad your Houston trip was a success and that you got to meet an online friend and see an old friend.
