I love Anacortes, Washington. It is the closest mainland town for us to shop in and, as I have mentioned in previous posts, if I was going to live on the mainland - this would be the place.The streets are filled with what I call 'everyday art'. Even the garbage cans are shaped like cans of salmon (salmon processing was a large business in this area).
The historic Wilson Hotel is one of my favorite pieces of art work, The entire painting is composed of circles - I should have taken a close up of them - having to hurry, rather than dawdle, always makes me forget to do something!
The sides of the buildings are adorned with wonderful art work. Here, is the previously mentioned wonderful Yarn Shop, is adorned with great "side walk art". Below is the side of another building. These are also some of the designs that are used for the garbage cans on the sidewalks - another photo I neglected to take on this little foray! Growing up, and previously working, in large cites nationwide has given me a real appreciation for where I live. On our island we do not have a single stop light (we do have stop signs!), a traffic jam is more than 4 cars, we walk down the street saying hello to neighbors and friends. I think that living in beautiful Anacortes would be much the same way.
