Blessings & Friendship From The Holy Island

One of the best things about blogging, as I have mentioned many times before, are the friendships that have grown along with my blog. Sue, is one of those friends - she is someone that I think that I would have great times with in person if we were not separated by the 'pond'. In one of her emails she mentioned that she was about to go to Lindisfarne - which is a place that I have always been drawn to & that I hope to visit myself before I shake these "surly bonds"! To make a long story shorter - Sue really surprised me by sending me this amazing packet. I get such a thrill seeing the post mark that reads "Royal Mail"! The first thing that I saw was her beautiful, hand painted & quilted card .. what a treasure! I have it where I see it every day - along those that some of you have sent to me in the past. I love my little collection !

Next I opened a bag that noted Lindisfarne is known for their Mead. Who knew?! Maybe that's why I want to go - I have always wanted to taste Mead. There was a lovely little book about the history of this Holy Island - and it is, truly, fascinating. Sue did not know before this that I am a British History buff - though generally I regal myself with tales from the 14th thru 17th centuries. Next up was this beautiful wall hanging?! WoW !!! Richly decorated with Celtic symbols, a stylized version of my favorite Celtic Cross - and look at those "plain" patterns ... I have to think about quilting this wall hanging don't you agree?!! What a wonderful blessing this unexpected treat was. Thank you Sue ! So much !

My friend Janet and I are off to the mainland & Seattle very early in the morning. We are going to spend a couple of days in the "big city" an go to the Association of Pacific Northwest Quilters bi-annual show. I was excited this year to have a piece accepted -first time I entered anything too! So I will be away from blogland until Sunday probably.

BTW - if anyone has any old time fountain pens that they are not using or would care to donate - I am trying to teach myself how to do some restoration work on them ... and need some likely candidates...plus I just adore fountain pens!

Hope everyone has a great, creative weekend!

Enjoy the APNQ show - hope your work does well. I'm off to the Festival of Quilts for the whole of next week (the largest show in the UK) I have 3 quilts in (most shows in this country aren't juried so it leaves me with no idea whether they're any good)

Strange coincidence - I'm planning a move to Berwick-Upon-Tweed within the next year. Berwick's very close to Holy Island, less than 10 miles, and the whole area is amazing - incredibly peaceful, lots of history - abbeys, castles, Elizabethan walls, you name it! So please come visit when I am settled!
