Many of you may already know about the wonders of making Dorset Buttons. It was all new to me though until I read Stephanie Pettingell's blogpost about making them. I was so hooked- so fast! Stephanie sent me the link to a great little on line tutorial. I read on one historical site that an expert button maker could make a gross (that's a whopping 144!) of these buttons per day. The history is pretty interesting too if you care to have a look. I needed to take another side line creative detour like I needed another case of bronchitis - but I could not resist! The first one took a bit of time - as you might expect - but each successive button has taken a shorter timeto complete. I have tried varying weights of sashiko & embroidery threads. The blue metallic looking one is made from some fine metallic braid. I think ribbon and yarn would be great too - and yes - I AM going to try them this weekend - with beads and some different designs. They will be worked on betwixt some other projects that absolutely have to get done.

They are beautiful. Great colors.
Yes, like me you 'got hooked', try changing the colour for the inner ring. I did have a difficulty getting the different ring sizes but there are so many threads about it is a wonderful little side hobby!! Yours Dorset buttons look great.

Now these look like fun to do and a great way to use up some leftover yarns and things. You did a nice job on yours, I really like those rainbow colored ones.
They are amazing! Glad you're over your bronchitis. I've had at least two things hit me since Christmas - better now but with masses of catching up to do!
They are wonderful. Now I'm going to have to try some! Sandy
